Win a Kenwood kMix Firecracker Stand Mixer
Century author Katie Fforde and Ebury’s Miranda Gore Browne are teaming up for a cooking competition. Katie’s new book, Recipe for Love, is out in March and in anticipation of its release Katie is searching for the ultimate ‘recipe for love’.The competition launched on Katie’s Facebook page - www.facebook.com/katiefforde. Entrants just need to upload a photo, written recipe or blog link by 1st March. Five finalists will be selected and invited to London to cook their recipes in a professional kitchen on March 14th. The recipes will be judged on the day by Katie and BBC Great British Bake Off finalist Miranda Gore Browne whose book, Biscuit, is published in April.
Katie Fforde said, “I’m so thrilled to be launching this competition to find the best recipes for love. I’m sure most of my fans realise just how much I love food and why a TV cooking competition was the ideal setting for my new bookRecipe For Love. I can’t wait to read these recipes and select the finalists but most of all I can’t wait to taste them too!”
The winner of the competition will receive a Kenwood kMix Firecracker Stand Mixer and coverage of the event will feature in the paperback edition of Recipe for Love.
Malteser Cake
A perfect cake to make with children or to enjoy when you need the comforting taste of malty chocolate and maltesers.
For the cake:
200g unsalted butter, softened
200g caster sugar
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
60g milk chocolate, melted
150g self raising flour
25g cocoa, sifted
40g Horlicks
1 teaspoon of baking powder
Cream the butter and sugar then add the eggs a little at a time, beating well after each addition.
Melt the chocolate and put to one side to cool a little.
Gently fold in the flour, Horlicks, cocoa and baking powder until completely incorporated. Then fold in the melted chocolate.
Line & grease two eight inch loose bottomed baking tins and bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for about twenty minutes.
For the icing:
300g icing sugar
125g unsalted butter, softened
50g Horlicks
50g cocoa, sifted
4 – 6 tablespoons of milk
Put all the ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth and creamy, add a little more milk if the mixture is too stiff. Sandwich and top the cakes with a generous amount of icing and decorate the top with Maltesers.
To decorate:
2 bags of Maltesers
Eleanor and I had such fun baking together after school yesterday.
We doubled the mixture in the recipe above and made:
24 mini cupcakes which Eleanor insisted we make for her to take to nursery this morning!
12 cupcakes - some as a belated birthday present for a friend, the rest for a friend recovering from an operation,
A 6 inch sandwich cake to give to one of Thomas's teachers who is leaving and
A 7 inch cake for the children (and me!) to enjoy when they come home from school!
Rather a productive baking session!!
Happy Baking!
love Miranda

Squires Group, The Grange, Hones Yard, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 8BBI love birthday parties and what could be lovelier than a flower fairy party.
We had such fun getting everything ready for Eleanor's fourth birthday party. Her little fairy friends had a wonderful time. Fairy cakes, fairy iced gems, tiny chocolate crispy cakes and flower shaped sandwiches were all gobbled up.
They loved decorating fairy wand biscuits and fairy cakes. I wrapped them up for them to take home in their party bags!
Eleanor gave me very clear instructions as to how she wanted her cake to look and I was closely monitored by my baking fairy at every stage of the process to ensure it was just right! We had a lovely girly time baking the chocolate cake to go inside and icing and decorating it together.
Happy Baking!
